Kids Behind Bars
Rex Bloomstein, has made several critically acclaimed and groundbreaking films inside prison, opening up worlds previously closed to the public. In 2005, Bloomstein returns to the subject with a compelling and powerful insight into life behind bars for Britain's under 18s, gaining unique access to two young offenders' centres in the UK.
The number of young people under 18 detained in England and Wales has more than doubled in the last decade. According to Prison Reform Trust statistics, 80% will re-offend and return within two years. In Kids Behind Bars, Bloomstein focuses on the personal stories of young offenders themselves who talk with extraordinary frankness about what led them to commit their crimes, how they feel about their actions and victims now and what their futures may hold. These are their stories, in their own words.
