BBC Daytime Commissions Escape to the Continent
02 Jul 2013

Press Release

BBC Daytime today announced the commission of a brand new series, Escape to the Continent, a brand extension of BBC One’s popular daytime show Escape to the Country from producers Boundless (part of FremantleMedia UK).

Presenter Nicky Chapman – a regular Escape to the Country host - and a mix of new faces will present the 20 x 60 mins daytime series.

As economic woes mount, poor weather lingers and the pace and stress of life in the UK spirals, many Brits are asking whether a new life under Mediterranean skies is worth considering. Escape to the Continent travels further than its British counterpart, taking those seeking a life change to test drive what an alternative life could look like in a new sunny climate.

Whether it’s a Greek island, Spanish beach or an Italian hill town, the series will go in search of the perfect new home for those seeking to make a life away from Blighty. Escape to the Continent will offer an insight into life living abroad – from competitively priced homes, stunning locations, employment openings and leisure opportunities as well as a dose of reality on issues such as property law, local taxation and healthcare.

Escape to the Country first aired in 2002 and is currently in production for its 14th series. The latest series on air regularly wins its time slot and is the UK’s highest rated daytime property show of 2013.

Pam Cavannagh, Executive Producer BBC Daytime, comments: “After many successful series’ of Escape to the Country I’m delighted we’re now able to offer viewers an insight into the practicalities of a move further afield.”

Managing Director of Boundless, Patrick Holland, adds: “I am thrilled to be making Escape to the Continent for the BBC. It’s is all credit to the great team that makes Escape to the Country such a popular and engaging brand that we have this opportunity to make this exciting new series.”
